#SV – The King’s Vinegar

Well, as a leader it is not a enough that you are mocked. Being mocked is not a measure that you are on the right. But the questions are: Why are you being mocked? And who are the ones mocking you? Are you being mocked for doing the right thing or for doing the wrong things? Are you being mocked for defending the poor, the less privileged and for speaking for the oppressed? Or are you being mocked for making yourself a demi-god, silencing opposition, and privileging the rich and powerful like yourself? Are you being mocked by the poor for making their conditions worse? Or are being mocked by the powerful for showing an example that ridicules their own definition of power and privilege?

Jesus challenges our understanding of power and leadership in the world today. He upturns our common narratives. He offers us an example that leads to the salvation of others, to their healing, to their liberation, to their happiness and joy.

But being like Jesus means that we have to be ready for his crown of thorns; that we should be ready to have vinegar for water; that we should be ready to be denied, abused, stripped naked, and ultimately crucified. Only then, can we rise with him in glory!

Do not be intimidated by the forces in the world that only see power as an exercise in brutality and commandeering. Serve others. Uplift others. Speak for the poor. Be their advocate. Build inclusive communities. And be a symbol of peace, of joy and of unity. This is what Jesus teaches us and has called us to do.
