#SV – Alleluia?

Faith is more about how we believe than it is about what to believe, Richard Rohr reminds us. And this attitude is important at a time like this. How do we exercise faith in the face of the pandemic? How do we believe in the face of global suffering and difficulty? How do we respond to God at a time like this? If faith a relationship with God in which the darkness and light are constant elements – whereby the light continually overcomes the darkness of our lives, the uncertainty of our future, the hopelessness of the moment, and the difficulties yet unknown (John 1:5) – then it is not a promise of an Eldorado. Rather, is an assurance of confidence, of joy, and courage despite every difficulty, including death.

A true believer is confident in the power of Jesus who has conquered sin and death. He or she is not thrown into trepidation about what tomorrow brings. Walking through the shadow of death and darkness without fear is the attitude of faith. The joyfulness that marks faith in the resurrection of Christ is not drowned by the scary storm and tempest. Faith rather brings peace of mind, which can only come from a deep understanding of one’s special relationship with God.

It is Easter and our joy as Christians cannot be eclipsed by the pandemic. The pandemic like death has been conquered by Christ through His cross. Death stands defeated. As the world struggles to overcome this pandemic, we give glory to God for life, for the lessons of suffering and for the glory of Christ’s resurrection, which reassures us that death, darkness and the devil do not have the final say.

And so, we shout ‘Alleluia’ to the highest heavens. The Lord is risen! We too shall rise with Him.
