The instruction that was given by Jesus on collecting the fragments is based on something very instructive, namely “so that nothing will be wasted” (John 6:12). Nothing should be wasted.

In the hands of the super rich, particularly those that have managed to highjack the commonwealth of nations, they can afford to throw away the fragments, because for them, these are for the poor. They have no sense of responsibility since there is no merit to the wealth they lavishly throw around.

For those that have the community in mind, those that are conscious of the upliftment of everyone so that all can enjoy abundant life, there is no room for wastage even when everyone is satisfied.

With the fragments, there are still more miracles to happen as far as the Lord is concerned. For the one who fashioned humans out of clay, there is nothing to be considered waste, nothing to be thrown away!

When next the logic hits us to accumulate for ourselves and ourselves alone; when the logic hits us to neglect the poor and suffering around us; Lord open our hearts to hand over our 5 or 20 loaves and 2 fish to you, open our minds to trust you enough to multiply the good that you alone put into our palms. May those around us rejoice. May we contribute in creating better, prosperous, and joyful communities, societies and nations. May your logic of abundant life for all, Lord, be our own logic as well.
