#SV – Together, we pray

This sequence of the Pentecost has been modified from the original, which is more poetic, to a simpler language. The aim is to make indeed a prayer that comes right from the heart of believers without the distraction of the rhyming pattern of that beautiful sequence.

Come, beloved Holy Spirit!

From your celestial home

Shed a ray of light divine upon us!

Come, Father of the poor!

You are the source of all we have,

Come, dwell and shine within us.

You are the greatest comforter;

You are the most welcome guest of our souls;

Come and refresh us here below;

In our labor, give us most sweet rest;

Grateful coolness in the heat of anxieties;

Solace in the midst of many conflicts.

O most blessed Light divine,

Shine within our hearts, we belong to you,

Fill up our inmost being!

Where you are not, we have nothing,

Nothing good in deed or thought,

Nothing free from taint of our sins.

Heal our wounds, renew our strength;

On our dryness pour your healing dew;

Wash away the stains of our guilt:

Bend our stubborn hearts and wills;

Melt the frozen, warm the chill;

Guide our steps lest we go astray.

Upon us, the faithful, the believers,

Who adore and confess you always,

Send forth your sevenfold gift;

Grant us the sure reward of virtue;

Grant us your salvation, Lord;

Give us joys that never end. Amen.
