The early Church was a community that understood the nature of Christ’s power that sought to conquer by love, humility, forgiveness even in the face of persecution, endurance and hope in the midst of uncertainty, and focus on the Kingdom of God. The Constantinian turn brought the Church into the corridors of state power and over time the understanding of power got corrupted – a big Church with its army and it’s big cathedrals, its control of people’s destinies and so on. This demonstration of power continues today in various forms despite loss of considerable power by the Church. It is time to look up to Christ again to understand the true nature of the Christian power. The focus should be to make the Kingsom of God come.
