Sin takes us to the lowest points. Disobedience to God is sin. But the opposite, which is obedience takes us to the height, because it takes the summoning of the highest form of inner will to stay faithful to the commands of God. But by staying on that height, where our heads and hearts are lifted up to God (sursum corda) we enter into the place of blessing, a place of virtue, a place of righteousness, a place where God wants us to be in order to witness, like the three apostles, the splendour of divine glory. At that height, we embrace holiness, and become immune to the things that can only hurt the body and never the soul. We become fearless in the face of death, only cheered up by that promise of everlasting life in the Kingdom of God, the highest place we can ever be.
Happy Lenten Season!
