The attention that God gives to us His creatures cannot be equated with any kind of care that we can get from fellow humans, not even from those who have been given the rare privilege to care for the souls of many. Those of us in that category must have been angry with Jesus, who after inviting his disciples to a well-deserved rest, still could not resist caring for the vast crowd that double-crossed them: “his heart was moved with pity for them, for they were like sheep without a shepherd; and he began to teach them many things.” (Mk.6:30-34) We are in the care of a God, who in Christ, brokered our peace, breaking the wall of enmity, reconciling us with God, and granting us access to the Father in the one Spirit (Eph.2:13-18). We have a God who does not allow us to perish in the hands of deceitful and fallible shepherds (Jer.23:1-6), but rather rescues us, leading us through the right paths to the place of overflowing blessing (Ps.21). Since we know this, may our souls always know peace, rest assured that God is with us. Always!
