#SV – A Converted Heart

What does it mean that God speaks in our hearts? It means that our hearts are completely surrendered to God as a ‘holy ground’ where everything divine comes forth, a place where divine Will is embraced and done. Originally created in the image and likeness of God (Gen.1:26-27), it means that each of us carry within us a trace of this ‘holy ground’ before which the dirty sandals of sin – domination, abuse, dishonesty, envy, pride, oppression, slavery, murder, etc – should be removed. Just as nothing impure can enter the throne of God (Rev.21:27), we should as much as possible avoid staining the lives of one another with our impure hands and minds. We should tremble before the ‘holy presence’ of the other who is created in the image of the Wholly Holy God, to who we owe our very existence. To come to this consciousness, it is important to go beyond the excitement of both the materials goods we are blessed and the calamity that we are saved from, and then come to that place where our hearts and minds are fully focused on God, who has called us to holiness not just in the abstract sense but with a concrete mission to liberate others and resettle them in the land flowing with milk and honey (Ex.3;17). This was the mission of Moses, today it is our mission as Christians in a world where the people of God face all manner of affliction.
