Yes, his death and resurrection are core parts of the mystery of our faith (mysterious fidei), yet he had to be born first. The time to live rightly is not tomorrow, but today for each day is the day. Staying awake is simply a metaphor to staying on the path of righteousness that Christ has laid out for us. We should stop behaving towards God in a transactional manner but to see godliness as a lifestyle, one that is designed to give us the very things that we desire – abundant life, peace, unity, prosperity, and a reign of love among men and women on earth.
