#SV – Stay Humble!

Gospel  Luke 14:1, 7-14 On a sabbath Jesus went to dineat the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. He told a parable to those who had been invited, noticing how they were choosing the places of honor at the table.“When you are invited by someone to a wedding banquet,do not recline at table in the place of honor.A more distinguished guest than you may have been invited by him,and the host who invited both of you may approach you and say,‘Give your place to this man,’and then you would proceed with embarrassmentto take … Continue reading #SV – Stay Humble!

#SV – Beware…Long Robes!

In the course of his teaching Jesus said to the crowds,“Beware of the scribes, who like to go around in long robesand accept greetings in the marketplaces, seats of honor in synagogues, and places of honor at banquets. They devour the houses of widows and, as a pretextrecite lengthy prayers. They will receive a very severe condemnation.” He sat down opposite the treasuryand observed how the crowd put money into the treasury. Many rich people put in large sums.A poor widow also came and put in two small coins worth a few cents. Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them,“Amen, I say to you, … Continue reading #SV – Beware…Long Robes!

#SV – Take, and Stay Off!

Sir 3:17-18, 20, 28-29 My child, conduct your affairs with humility, and you will be loved more than a giver of gifts. Humble yourself the more, the greater you are, and you will find favor with God. What is too sublime for you, seek not, into things beyond your strength search not. The mind of a sage appreciates proverbs, and an attentive ear is the joy of the wise. Water quenches a flaming fire, and alms atone for sins. Lk 14:1, 7-14On a sabbath Jesus went to dineat the home of one of the leading Pharisees, and the people there were observing him carefully. #SV – Who is this?

Instead, most preachers of the Word have focused on power: the power to do miracles, the power to cast and bind, … Continue reading #SV – Who is this?

Humility is the way of love, of forgiveness, of righteousness, of happiness and joy. This is particularly the case in a world that is defined by power, domination, brute struggle and claims to superiority. Paul while writing to Timothy acknowledged the fact the God stood by him and that it was God that saved him, despite his claims to having done well, and ran a good race (2Tim.4:6-8,16-18). The acknowledgment … Continue reading #SV – Justified Sinner
