#SV – Gather the Fragments!

The “leftovers” from the miracle of the feeding of the multitude (Jn.6:1-15) was already prophesized in the Old Testament by Elisha when a similar miracle happened (2 Kgs.4:42-44). Why is it important to gather the fragments? Jesus already provides the answer: “so that nothing will be wasted” (Jn.6:12). Part of the reasons for the sad inequality in our world today is because the leftovers are often wasted. Every year, an average of 1.3 billion tons of good food are wasted, representing one-third of all food produced, and about $940 Billion. Now, there is a natural tendency among the rich to … Continue reading #SV – Gather the Fragments!

#SV – The Logic of Light

The Gospel about being light says only one thing every Christian: Go and shine in the world! And there is the silent question there: How? How are we supposed to shine? Here is the answer: Shine through your good works! Shine through your good actions! Shine through your good deeds! Then comes the caveat: Do not shine for yourself. Shine that God may be glorified through your good works. That’s it! Continue reading #SV – The Logic of Light

#SV – Behold, this Child!

A sign of contradiction! Isn’t that what we all are? Sometimes we are agents of good, at other times the agents of evil! We rise and we fall! We build and we destroy! We succeed and we fail! Well, in the case of Jesus, the message is that embracing Jesus and His words is to embrace life, love, joy, peace, resurrection and hope, while to reject Jesus is to abandon oneself to the forces of darkness, unforgiveness, unloved, strife and despair. Jesus is everything! Continue reading #SV – Behold, this Child!

#SV – Availability

To add a few lines: Availability is equally an act of respect – respect to the one who requires you to be available for others, God in this case. It is also an act of respect to others whom you are to serve. When people are gifted, it is not meant to service their pride and ego, which is often the case. Since the talents and competences which form the basis of our availability for service towards others should not make us bloated in pride and self-adulation, then it means that availability is an attitude of humility. It invites us … Continue reading #SV – Availability

#SV – The Impartial God

God owns all. God loves all. God sustains all. Christ is the Son of God. Christ is God. Christ owns all. Christ loves all. Christ sustains all. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Father and the Son. Holy Spirit is God. Holy Spirit owns all. Holy Spirit loves all. Holy Spirit sustains all. The partial God is only created in our image, in our tendency to be partial, to exhibit favoritism and to be nepotistic. Peter lays down a standard rule here: fear God and act justly. Continue reading #SV – The Impartial God

#SV – The Unyielding

Protest against injustice would require, besides the very act of legitimate protest, some other factors. It is important to protest through legitimate and legal means and channels; It is necessary to protest from the standpoint of knowledge – knowledge about one’s rights and responsibilities, about what the law forbids and allows, and so on; It is also valuable to protest with the right strategy – coordination and targeted protest is important to achieve results; There is a spiritual dimension to protest against social injustice. It is faith that could strengthen the resolve to never give up; Finally, there is something … Continue reading #SV – The Unyielding
