Resolution: From ‘Do’ To ‘Be’

NY Goals

Beloved folks,

Here we come again to that time of the year when we engage in the popular exercise of ‘New Year Resolution’ when we make our ‘to-do list’ for the new year. 2019 is now here and I am pretty sure you have made your list, for those who are still interested in doing so. Some people have completely jettisoned the practice because they often discover that they constantly fail to live up to their resolutions.

Well, I do not intend on convincing you on why should make your annual resolution. I am also not interested in telling you how you can live up to your resolutions if you eventually make some.

I am only appeal for a shift of emphasis. What do I mean?

Instead of making a ‘to-do’ list, I just want you to make a ‘to-be’ list:

  • Instead of making a resolution to get 100% in Mathematics next year, you can decide to be more studious the coming year.
  • Instead of resolving to make your family more united this new year, you can decide to be more peaceful, sincere, and hospitable.
  • Instead of resolving to make more money this year, you can decide to be more financially intelligent this 2019.

Often we get things done in a more sustaining way by focusing on ‘being’ rather than ‘doing’. It is from being that we end up doing much more.

Wishing you a fruitful 2019, where each one of us does more by becoming more:

  • becoming more sensitive to the needs of others;
  • becoming more gentle and welcoming;
  • becoming more creative and industrious;
  • becoming more honest and kind;
  • becoming more patient and discerning;
  • becoming more responsible and accountable.

I wish you the best of 2019!
