#SV – Availability

To add a few lines:

Availability is equally an act of respect – respect to the one who requires you to be available for others, God in this case. It is also an act of respect to others whom you are to serve. When people are gifted, it is not meant to service their pride and ego, which is often the case.

Since the talents and competences which form the basis of our availability for service towards others should not make us bloated in pride and self-adulation, then it means that availability is an attitude of humility. It invites us to be humble. Service to God and to others is a lesson on humility. In our humble service, God continues to uplift us. Let God glorify us and may we not seek our own glorification by ourselves on the basis of whatever gifts we have.

Finally, availability for the service of the Lord is not exclusive to any particular set of people – for example, priests, pastors, and others who serve in the church or society at various levels. No! It is for everyone since each and everyone of us is gifted in one way or another. Our gifts are for the service of God’s will, they are to be deployed in ensuring that God’s Kingdom of righteousness, justice, peace and love reigns.
